Title: STOP THE 388 BUS SERVICE CUTS
Petition Overview: The latest HCC Bus consultation proposes to remove support for local bus services with a subsidy above £3.50 per passenger journey. The 388 currently has a subsidy of £5.55. Apart from the school runs, the 388 would be replaced by one “shopping” trip per day, probably to Welwyn Garden City (Tues/Thurs/Fri) and Hertford (Mon/Wed/Sat). This bus service is a critically essential service for rural populations between Hertford and Welwyn Garden City and we object to : - the severe limitations of the proposed new service, - the impaired access to doctors surgeries, hospitals, dentist, opticians and local rail connections in Hertford and Welwyn Garden City - the service can no longer be used to by students going to college or school out of normal hours or people going to & from work Herts County Council should be supporting rural communities not isolating them and should be promoting the use of more environmentally friendly methods of transport instead of making car travel the only viable option. Please sign this petition to stop the 388 bus service cuts.

The county council has conducted a second consultation on the amount of funding it provides to support local bus services. Based on the feedback we received during the first bus consultation in 2014 the original proposals were amended to reflect some of the concerns raised as well as adding in a review of the value for money criteria which is used to assess which services we should support and ones which we are unable to. Members of the county council considered the feedback from the consultation and its potential impacts and decided on 18 May 2015 that the proposed changes should go forward. Changes to services will take effect from September 2015 and this will include the 388 service. Officers and local members have met with Tewin Parish Council and is in dialogue with the local operators to consider possible options that if funded by the Parish Councils could offer residents in Tewin an alternative to the planned withdrawal of the county council funded service.
