Title: Air Pollution
Petition Overview: This Petition is intended to bring to the attention of Hertfordshire County Council and St. Albans District Council the strength of the very serious concerns felt by residents living in or near to central St. Albans with regard to the dangerous and excessive levels of pollution (principally Nitrogen Dioxide) caused by traffic congestion, such pollution inevitably leaving residents at risk of serious long-term damage to their health.

Hertfordshire County Council's Local Transport Plan 3 recognises the County goal to encourage sustainable transport and improve air quality through a variety of potential interventions for example, cycling schemes, pedestrian improvements an quality of life schemes. As the Highway Authority Hertfordshire County Council are engaged with St Albans District Council and help develop and deliver the transport related elements of the Air Quality Area Action Plan that identifies possible interventions for the city area that would have a positive effect on air quality and the Air Quality Management Area. We continue to work with the District Council and with other key groups such as bus companies to look for ways to reduce congestion and improve air quality through the Network St Albans partnership
