Title: Stop the closure of Cuffley Camp Outdoor Centre
Petition Overview: For over 50 years Cuffley Camp has been providing a unique woodland setting for the thousands of school children and young people who visit every year. The proposed closure of Cuffley Camp will deprive Hertfordshire of this very special outdoor space which helps so many children develop resilience, social and environmental awareness, team skills and the joy and freedom of learning in the woods. Children learn environmental studies and enjoy outdoor activities such overnight camping, high ropes, mountain biking, archery, orienteering, bush craft and outdoor art to name but a few. This is so important for today’s children who simply do not get the opportunity to be taught these necessary life skills in the typical school environment. Not to mention the great memories these children come away with and have shared over generations. Cuffley Camp cannot be replicated elsewhere! Please sign this petition to stop the closure and save this valuable environment for our children and future generations.

Cabinet agreed on 13 November 2017 that the County Council should withdraw from its lease at Cuffley Camp Outdoor Centre and commit to further engage with the landlord in order to promote the site’s continued use as an outdoor education centre serving young people. This decision was ‘Called-In’ and was duly considered by the Overview and Scrutiny Committee on 29 November 2017. Following its consideration of the matter the Scrutiny Committee agreed that it had no objection to the Called-In decision being implemented.
