Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) will not be providing footway and lighting improvements along the A505 Bypass as we would not wish to encourage non-vehicular movement along this high speed dual carriageway route. The A505 was built following the required design standards at the time which provided guidance on the type of roads that needed to be lit. As an authority we would encourage the use of alternative walking routes available which HCC has invested in to encourage and promote sustainable travel. HCC has long term aspirations to provide a walking/cycling facility via a bridge across the A505 to link Royston and Melbourn in Cambridgeshire.
