Contact us Gypsy and Traveller sites in Hertfordshire There are 55 Gypsy and Traveller sites in Hertfordshire. We manage 11 of them, including: 10 permanent sites, providing 187 pitches. 1 short stay (transit) site, providing 15 pitches. The others are private sites or unlicensed sites. Report an encampment An 'encampment' means at least one vehicle and one caravan. We will not investigate a tent or a camper van of any size. Report an encampment What happens next? We will visit to do a welfare check. We will investigate whether the encampment is on our land or privately owned land. If the encampment is on private land, it is the private landowner’s responsibility to move on the encampment. If the land belongs to us, we will take responsibility to move on the encampment. What does the Gypsy and Traveller Service do? We are the landlords for all of Hertfordshire County Council's Gypsy and Traveller sites. We manage and maintain accommodation for Gypsy and Traveller families on 10 permanent and one short stay (transit) site. Our service is funded by the rents collected from these sites.
