Hertfordshire County Council

A120 bypass (Little Hadham) and flood alleviation scheme Opened to customers on 22 December 2021. This new and resilient 3.9km bypass will alleviate traffic light congestion and improve air quality in Little Hadham, and provide more reliable travel times to Stansted Airport which benefits the county's economy.

We worked in partnership with the Environment Agency to develop new road embankments across the River Ash and Albury Tributary valleys, which reduce flood risk to the village and other nearby communities.

M11 junction 8 improvementsThe area around Junction 8 of the M11 is congested at peak times.

Planned new housing in the area and development at Stansted Airport will mean there will be more traffic using this junction.

Essex County Council plan to improve off-slip lane capacity at Junction 8 with a widened A120 signalised junction, to help meet future demand.

Recently completed

Standon improvements

We have now completed the Standon Improvements Scheme, which included work at these junctions on the A120:

  • Cambridge Road
  • South Road / Barwick Road
  • Station Road
  • High Street / Mill End

The changes will help to make the local area more easily accessible for residents by:

  • making it easier for pedestrians to cross
  • making it easier for local traffic to access the A120
  • reducing the speed of traffic through the village.
