Central government has released extra funding for local road resurfacing and maintenance over the period 2023-24 to 2033-34. We were awarded £5.6 million additional DfT ‘Network North’ funding for the period 2023 to 2025. We are using these funds to make significant improvements across 3 areas: Road surfacing – we're spending £4 million on road surfacing across the county. Vehicle restraint systems (carriageway barriers) – we have over 258km of restraint systems. We'll spend £1.1 million repairing and replacing safety fencing across the county on high speed roads. Street lights – we have over 116,000 street lights. We will spend £500,000 across the county, replacing street light columns and cables. Work is assessed at a countywide level and based on condition data and expert assessments. These schemes may be subject to change. Find out what we're doing in your area:
