Greenspace Action Plans

Ayot Greenway

Hertfordshire County Council is seeking comments on a new Greenspace Action Plan for the Ayot Greenway, which will direct major improvements to the route over the next five years.

The new plan aims to upgrade the Ayot Greenway into an attractive and functional route, recognising its importance to the community and its potential for active travel. The top priority is to improve its surface and drainage, while ensuring that any changes are sensitive to its rural character.

The plan contains further proposals to make access points easier to use and more welcoming, with clear and attractive signage. This includes designing and installing new interpretation panels and entrance signs to help celebrate the railway heritage of the route.

Vegetation management will also take place, to prevent encroachment onto the path, increase light levels where beneficial and maintain the valuable woodland and scrub habitats which make the Ayot Greenway such a special place.

Take a look at the Draft Ayot Greenway Greenspace Action Plan, which explains plans for the Ayot Greenway in much more detail. We would welcome your comments by Monday 23rdth March.

Jersey Lane

We have now finalised a new Greenspace Action Plan for Jersey Lane in St Albans, which will direct improvements to the route over the next ten years.

The plan includes improvements to the surface, signage and vegetation management along the route, and sets out the rights and responsibilities of both Hertfordshire County Council and local residents in relation to Jersey Lane. We undertook two stages of community engagement to help develop and refine the plan.
