The National Speed Awareness course is normally a class-based session involving discussion, group work and presentations.
It aims to help drivers recognise speed limits and choose safe speeds for the road and traffic conditions.
There is no formal driving test and you don't need a car.
It's normally held at various places in Hertfordshire. Free on-site parking is available at all venues. We'll give you more details when you book a place on the course.
The course lasts 4 hours. There is normally a choice of times:
- morning course: 8.15am – 12.15pm
- afternoon course: 1.15pm – 5.15pm.
Arrive at least 15 minutes before the start time. You won't be allowed to take part if you're late.
You must show your driving licence with photo ID on arrival to take part.
You must tell us in advance if you have any special requirements. It is best to call us on 0300 123 4035 so that we can discuss your needs.
Examples of special requirements include:
instalment payments – the course must be fully paid for in advance
a private room for breastfeeding - note that you cannot bring a baby or child into the classroom, so you will need to bring someone to care for your baby while you take part.
an interpreter – we can provide one or you can bring one if you tell us in advance (they must be over 16 years old and have some ID).
