Before you start...

You'll need the following to book onto this course:

  • your driving licence number
  • a debit or credit card.

This course costs £90 in Hertfordshire.


Webinars

During coronavirus social distancing, you can book and complete a speed awareness course online. You can also rearrange previously booked courses as webinars.

  • Courses last 2.5 hours and uses Zoom, an online conference system
  • There will be up to 8 clients and our trainer
  • You'll need a tablet, laptop or desktop with a microphone, camera and reliable internet connection (capable of streaming video).
  • Smartphones can be used but the course will be more effective on a larger screen.

You can book a course online regardless of which police force in the UK offered you a course.

 

Course information

The National Speed Awareness course is normally a class-based session involving discussion, group work and presentations.

It aims to help drivers recognise speed limits and choose safe speeds for the road and traffic conditions.

There is no formal driving test and you don't need a car.

It's normally held at various places in Hertfordshire. Free on-site parking is available at all venues. We'll give you more details when you book a place on the course.

The course lasts 4 hours. There is normally a choice of times:

  • morning course:  8.15am – 12.15pm
  • afternoon course:  1.15pm – 5.15pm.


Arrive at least 15 minutes before the start time. You won't be allowed to take part if you're late.

You must show your driving licence with photo ID on arrival to take part.

 

Special requirements

You must tell us in advance if you have any special requirements. It is best to call us on 0300 123 4035 so that we can discuss your needs.

Examples of special requirements include:

  • instalment payments – the course must be fully paid for in advance

  • a private room for breastfeeding - note that you cannot bring a baby or child into the classroom, so you will need to bring someone to care for your baby while you take part.

  • an interpreter – we can provide one or you can bring one if you tell us in advance (they must be over 16 years old and have some ID).

 
If you are disabled, it may be best to contact your chosen training venue to check on access and availability of disabled parking spaces. The contact numbers are under the severe weather section below.

 

What to do in severe weather

If there’s snow or flooding on the day of your course, call the venue to check it’s still going ahead.

If you can't make it because of the weather conditions, or if your course is cancelled, please contact us on 0300 123 4035 to arrange a new date. You can't re-book online.

 

Will my information be kept confidential?

Yes. We’ll keep your attendance information for 3 months from the course date. We’ll tell the police about your attendance once you have completed the course. Details of the police data policies.
