By car

Driving directions to our visitor's car park

The A119 from Stevenage and A414 from Hatfield go through Hertford. The A10 is also nearby.

Limited visitor parking is available. The visitor's car park is at the front of the building and is signposted from Pegs Lane.

By train

There are two railway stations in Hertford:

  • Hertford East – serving Liverpool Street
  • Hertford North – with trains from Stevenage and the north and London Kings Cross (evenings) London Moorgate (daytime)

By bus

There's a bus stop directly opposite the front entrance of County Hall. Hertford Bus Station is in Birchley Green shopping centre approximately a 15 minute walk away.

By car


Driving directions to our vehicle entrance

  • Exit at junction 7 of the A1(M) Motorway
  • at the roundabout, take the exit onto the A602 (Broadhall Way) signposted Stevenage / Ware
  • at the next roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A1072 (Gunnels Wood Road)
  • use the left lane to continue to the next roundabout (do not continue straight through the underpass) and take the 1st exit onto Six Hills Way.
  • the entrance will be on your right.

By bicycle or on foot


Walking directions to our pedestrian entrance


Directions via the police station:

  • Follow the footway/cycleway between the railway line and the train station car park
  • pass the police station on your left and turn right at the footway/cycleway t-junction
  • continue to follow the footway/cycleway straight ahead (going under railway line)
  • go across the entrance to Stevenage Leisure Park
  • follow footpath/cycleway around to the right and then turn left under the subway
  • on exit of subway go straight ahead through the gate and go up some steps to the campus. Follow signs to main reception to sign-in.


Directions via the leisure park:

  • Follow signs from the train station to the Leisure Park, using the stairs/ramp to get to the car park
  • follow the marked footway through the Leisure Park
  • turn right onto footway/cycleway (Six Hills Way)
  • follow footway/cycleway around to the right and turn left under the subway
  • on exit from subway go straight ahead through the gate and go up some steps to the campus. Follow signs to main reception to sign in.


Directions from Stevenage bus station:

  • Follow the signs to Stevenage train station and cross the dual carriageway using the footbridge
  • Once across footbridge descend stairs / ramp to ground level
  • See route via Police Station for further directions

By train

The nearest train station is Stevenage, approximately a 15 minute walk from the campus.

Stevenage bus station is in the town centre, approximately a 15 minute walk from the campus.

By car from the M25

  • Exit at Junction 20 of the M25 Motorway
  • at the roundabout, take the exit for A4251 Kings Langley. Continue for about 2 miles passing through Kings Langley towards Hemel Hempstead
  • continue straight ahead at traffic lights (under a railway bridge), past the Red Lion pub on your right
  • at the next roundabout, take the road to the right, signposted Doolittle Business Park. Apsley Campus is on your left.

By car from the M1

  • Exit at Junction 8 of the M1 Motorway and follow the signs for A414 Hemel Hempstead.
  • continue on this road over 4 roundabouts and down the hill to the multiple roundabout (known locally as the Magic Roundabout).
  • follow the signs for Apsley and Abbots Langley
  • at the traffic lights bear left onto the A4251, signposted Kings Langley. Continue straight ahead through 2 sets of traffic lights.
  • at the roundabout turn left, signposted Doolittle Business Park. Apsley Campus is on your left.

By train

Apsley railway station is approximately a 5 minute walk from Apsley campus. It is served by London Midland trains on the London Euston to Northampton line with direct services from Watford Junction, Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted and Tring.

By bus

Bus services to the Apsley Campus are operated by Arriva. There is a bus stop directly opposite the Apsley Campus.

By car from A1(M) junction 6

  • At exit 6, keep left onto ramp towards A1000/Welwyn Garden City/Welwyn
  • at the roundabout take the first exit onto A1000 (Hertford Road)
  • at the next roundabout take the second exit onto A1000 (Bessemer Road)
  • follow the A1000 over the next two roundabouts
  • at the next roundabout, take the first exit onto A1000 (Mundells)
  • you'll immediately see the entrance to the site on the right (before the bend).

By car from Hertford

  • Take the A414 towards Hatfield
  • at the Letty Green / Cole Green roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the B195 (Birchall Lane)
  • go straight over the next 3 roundabouts on the B195 (Black Fan Road)
  • onto A1000 (Mundells) 1-way system and into the right hand lane
  • at the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the A1000 (Mundells)
  • you'll immediately see the site on the right (before the bend).

By train

The nearest British Rail Station is Welwyn Garden City on the Kings Cross to Peterborough line.

The station is approximately 1 and half miles away from the Mundells site.

By bus

There are 2 regular, local bus services which have stops at the nearby Bessemer Road Business Park.
