Hertfordshire Living Lab

About us

The Hertfordshire Living Lab represents a bold strategic initiative that we're leading, to facilitate innovation in addressing the county’s most pressing challenges.

Originally focused on smart mobility, HLL has evolved into a cross-sector testbed integrating:

  • Transport
  • Public health
  • Environmental resilience
  • Digital infrastructure

We create both physical and virtual environments for safe, scalable trials of emerging technologies, enabling real-world impact through collaborative experimentation.

Use Cases:

Explore how HLL is applying innovation across sectors:

  • Cross Pavement Channels: Managing kerbside infrastructure and mobility access.
  • AI driven robots: Trialling autonomous delivery and service robots.
  • Journey Time Analysis: Using data to improve travel efficiency across the network.
  • Improving Rural Connectivity: Testing solutions that bridge digital and transport gaps in underserved areas.
  • Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM): Developing a bid to Innovate UK to pilot autonomous vehicle trials in Hertfordshire.
