The Better Health Bus offers a changing schedule of services throughout the week, provided by a range of organisations. To find out which services are available each day, take a look at our schedule.
All services delivered on the Better Health Bus are free and available to anyone who lives or is registered with a GP in Hertfordshire. Additional eligibility criteria may apply for some services.
At every event, our staff are on hand to discuss your health and wellbeing needs and can help connect you with the support and services you need. If you’re not sure what help is available to you in Hertfordshire, pop down to the bus and have a chat with our team.
We can offer a free NHS Health Check on selected days on the Better Health Bus. This check can detect early signs of conditions like heart disease, kidney disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia. During this 30-minute appointment, you'll answer questions about your lifestyle and medical history, have some measurements taken and get a cholesterol test. Your results are available immediately and our team can organise any relevant onward referrals.
You can get an NHS Health Check if you live or are registered to a GP in Hertfordshire, and you meet the eligibility criteria.
We often offer pre-bookable appointments for NHS Health Checks on the Better Health Bus. Register for an NHS Health Check and find out more.
On selected days, we can offer you a Wellbeing Check if:
- you're 18+
- you're not eligible for an NHS Health Check.
Wellbeing Checks are similar to NHS Health Checks, but do not include a cholesterol test and only take around 20 minutes.
If you’re a smoker and you want to quit, our staff can help. They can sign you up for our 6-week or 12-week one-to-one service, or offer you a free 4-week vape starter kit. Check out our Stop Smoking Service page if you’d like to explore what other options are available to help you.

If you're aged 15 and over, you can pick up a free and confidential chlamydia and gonorrhoea testing kit from the Better Health Bus at every event. You can do the test at home, post it free of charge, and the local sexual health service will contact you with your result.
