Services available on the bus

Health checks

This free health check can detect early signs of conditions like heart disease, kidney disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and dementia. It includes either an NHS Health Check for residents aged 40-74 or a wellbeing check for those aged 18+ who aren't eligible for the NHS Health Check. Wellbeing checks are similar but don't include a cholesterol test. You'll answer questions about your lifestyle and medical history, have some measurements taken, and get your results immediately, with a chance to ask questions.

Stop smoking support (free)

If you’re a smoker and you want to quit, the Better Health Bus staff can help. They can sign you up for our 12-week one-one service, or offer you a free 4-week vape kit. Check out our Stop Smoking Service page if you’d like to explore what other options are available to help you.

Where will the bus be?

This schedule is updated monthly to cover a 6-8 week period.

Can I book an appointment?

Most of our Better Health Bus events are drop-in only, however we occasionally offer pre-bookable appointments for NHS Health Checks. Fill in this form for more information and to register your interest.

Alternatively, if we are in your local area soon and you’d like to request a specific time slot, we may be able to accommodate this. Email us at betterhealthbus@hertfordshire.gov.uk and we will do our best to help.

A translation service is available if required.

Accessibility

The bus has stepped access (three steps) and is not accessible for wheelchair-users.

If you're unable to access the bus, we can help you find services at a suitable accessible venue. Where circumstances allow, we might have a gazebo next to the bus, but this cannot be guaranteed.

If you would like to speak to someone to discuss your accessibility needs, please contact us.
