You need to submit a road space booking form if you wish to install any form of temporary traffic management on the public highway to facilitate:
- an event
- deliveries or works to private property
- any other such activities.
When to apply and response timescales
You should apply at least 2 weeks prior to the proposed work dates.
If you require a road closure, you should apply at least 3 months prior to the proposed work dates.
We aim to respond within 10 working days.
Apply for road space
You will need the following documentation:
- Traffic Management plan
- Site plan - Satellite map screengrab or image taken with a smartphone
- Public liability insurance - We require at least £10 million from both the applicant and the company conducting the works if they are different entities. If the applicant and the company conducting the works are the same, only one set of public liability insurance of £10 million is required.
2. Check whether you need to pay
Your road space booking will be free if it is with regard to:
- district or borough council works
- an event
- filming
- works covered under a Section 278 licence
- works covered under a Section 50 licence
- works on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council.
For all other submissions, there is a £130 non-refundable admin charge.
