Skip licence

You need to apply to be a skip operator and get a licence before you can place a skip on a public road, verge or pavement.

It's illegal to place a skip on the road without a licence. Where possible we'll ask for the skip to be placed on the property.

Before you start...

You'll need a copy of your public liability insurance at a minimum of £10 million.

It costs £43 for a 14 day licence, £21 for every week after.

If you are applying for a license in Broxbourne, please go to Broxbourne Borough Council.

Getting a skip licence

When we receive your application for a licence, we'll consider:

  • traffic on the street where you'd like the skip
  • danger and disruptions caused
  • width of the road
  • access to the property
  • planned or existing roadworks.

We may visit the site whilst the skip is in place to make sure it meets our safety requirements.
